Simon Baynes MP visits Coedpoeth Pharmacy and praises innovative new treatment services
On Wednesday 12 August, Clwyd South MP, Simon Baynes, made a socially distanced visit to The Pharmacy Coedpoeth to learn more about the work of frontline staff during the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent introduction of innovative new treatment services.

The Pharmacy Coedpoeth, which is based at Manchester House on Heol Maelor, has made over 5,500 home shopping and prescription deliveries to residents free of charge alongside the Community Support Team Volunteers in Coedpoeth since the start of the pandemic. Pharmacy staff have also undertaken charity work, including a Kidney Wales Walk for Life, planned a sponsored Snowdon trek and made donations to Shelter, local volunteers and schools.

The Pharmacy Coedpoeth has been at the forefront of introducing new services, including becoming an early adopter of the Common Ailments Scheme, a pilot site for the Sore Throat Test and Treat service and now Independent Prescribing for Minor Illnesses
On Wednesday, Mr Baynes met owner Dhimant Patel, pharmacy manager Ben Williams and pharmacist Alamin Siddique. Mr Baynes was also joined by Coedpoeth County Councillor, Michael Dixon, and Clerk of Coedpoeth Community Council, Katy Owen.

Dhimant Patel said:

“I was delighted to welcome Simon Baynes MP to The Pharmacy Coedpoeth. His office has helped us secure vital funds during the pandemic and his financial advice has been invaluable. My team and I were proud to showcase innovative pharmacy services, including Wrexham’s first independent prescriber led minor illness service. We also had a chance to discuss my role in the community, the pharmacy plans for the future and the pharmacy team’s extensive charity work.”

Simon Baynes MP said:

“Dhimant and all the staff at The Pharmacy Coedpoeth have worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was really impressed to learn about how they’ve worked as a team to help support some of our most vulnerable residents and provide innovative new services for people in Coedpoeth and the wider area. Their generous charity work, as well as donations to Penygelli Primary School deserve to be recognised and I’m deeply grateful for all the work they do locally.”
